For architect Luis Murillo, every home begins with a conversation – not just about square footage or style, but about how people want to live, gather, and feel in their space. It’s this human-first approach that has made him a trusted name in Southern California’s residential design scene.

Luis’ journey began in Bogotá, Colombia, where the vibrant culture and rich architectural history shaped his eye for beauty and craftsmanship. In 1997, freshly graduated with his architecture degree, he moved with his young family to California, eager to trade city skylines for ocean horizons. His early years with a Los Angeles–based design firm honed his skills and confirmed what would become his signature: an ability to blend modern innovation with a deep respect for materials, environment, and the personal stories of his clients.

In 2010, he founded LMD Architecture Studio – a boutique practice dedicated to creating modern, environmentally responsive homes that are as functional as they are inspiring. Luis credits his Colombian heritage and hands-on work ethic for his meticulous yet intuitive process. More than a designer, he is a collaborator, listener, and interpreter of ideas, translating visions into spaces that feel both contemporary and timeless. The result? Homes infused with trust, warmth, and a quiet sophistication that endures long after the last detail is placed.

Licensed in both Colombia and California, Luis has spent more than two decades shaping a portfolio that reflects not just design excellence, but the relationships behind each project. His clients often become lifelong friends – a testament to the connection, care, and creativity he brings to every endeavor.

When not at the drafting table, Luis finds inspiration riding his bike along the coast, listening to music, and taking in the rhythms of the ocean — a reminder that the best designs, like the tides, are both timeless and ever-changing.

Marcela Bermúdez

Marcela was born and raised in Bogotá, Colombia, where she received her bachelor’s degree in Business Administration at Universidad Del Rosario. Marcela is Luis’ wife and although their roots will always be in Colombia, she has enjoyed raising their two children, Laura, and Andrés, in Southern California. Marcela’s talent is in the realm of business planning and finance. She enjoys the ever-changing world of marketing and is adept at coordinating all the moving parts to work together toward the next step in growth for the company. She is reliable and is an ‘out of the box’ problem solver. Marcela’s brilliant energy and ideas add to the dynamics and enrichment of LMD Architecture Studio. During her free time, Marcela enjoys hiking with friends and doing yoga with her daughter Laura.

Luis Escalera

Luis received his Bachelor of Science in Architecture from Texas Tech University College of Architecture at El Paso, daily traveling back and forth from his home in Juarez, Mexico. From his experience growing up on an international border, Luis is passionate about the impact that architecture has on people culturally and socio-economically. Carrying this passion, he found a place to explore his interests in academics, theory and critical architecture at California College of the Arts in San Francisco, California, where he pursued and obtained his Master of Architecture. He looks forward to his personal growth in Los Angeles and his professional growth working with the LMD Architecture Studio team. Luis plays on a competitive soccer team and enjoys any sports that challenge him to improve and learn.
