This renovation in Hermosa Beach is a thoughtful celebration of mid-century modernism, updated for a contemporary coastal lifestyle. The project honors the original architectural soul of the home — characterized by its low-slung profile and clean horizontal lines—while integrating modern structural enhancements that open the interior to the light and energy of the Pacific.
The design focuses on restoring the home’s inherent sense of clarity and flow. By emphasizing a post-and-beam aesthetic and introducing expansive floor-to-ceiling glass, the residence achieves a renewed transparency. The living spaces are organized to blur the distinction between interior and exterior, leading to a private terrace that captures the ocean breeze and provides an intimate connection to the coastal climate.
The interiors reflect a warm, archival modernism that feels both nostalgic and fresh. A palette of rich wood tones and soft, sandy neutrals is grounded by tactile stone and vintage-inspired details. Each space is curated to prioritize comfort and craftsmanship, ensuring that the open-concept layout retains its historic character while providing the sophistication and ease required for modern beachside living.
